Barbara Ann Martin was born on July 23, 1949, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the union of Jennie Sue (Gunn) Turner and Percy Winston Turner. Her parents and her sister, Jacquelyn “Jackie,” preceded her in death.

Barbara was educated in the St. Louis community and graduated from Soldan High School in 1967. She continued her education at Forest Park Community College and O’Fallon Technical School, where she earned her associate degree and obtained her credentials as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

In 1970, Barbara married Larry Gene Martin of Wichita, Kansas. Their union was blessed with their only child, Lori Anissa Martin, in 1972.

Barbara dedicated much of her life to caring for others through her career in nursing. Over the years, she served patients and residents at several medical and long-term care facilities, including City Hospital No. 1, Tower Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Truman Restorative Center. Her work as a nurse reflected a life devoted to helping and caring for others.

Throughout her life, Barbara found joy in the simple things that made her happiest. She loved listening to music, watching movies, spending time with family, and, of course, playing—and winning—Bingo! Bingo brought Barbara tremendous joy and became one of the many things her loved ones will always remember about her.

Barbara also enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to make memories throughout her home state of Missouri and beyond, including trips to Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, and Texas.

The month of July 2026 became especially meaningful for Barbara and her family. She was blessed to spend time celebrating the birthdays of several family members, including her own 77th birthday on July 23. Those final celebrations provided her family with precious memories that will forever be cherished.

On August 7, 2026, Barbara peacefully made her final journey to her heavenly home, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, love, and unforgettable moments.

Barbara will be eternally remembered and deeply loved by her daughter, Lori; her sister, Donna; her nieces, Deletra (Anthony), Tanisha (Darwin), Jordan, Jada, and Grace; her nephews, Daniel and Anthony Jr.; her cousins; and a host of extended family members and dear friends united by both blood and bond.

Barbara’s beautiful spirit, her strength, her laughter, and her love will remain forever in the hearts of everyone blessed to have known her.
